ItaliaSOAVE: INDIGENOUS BY NATURE

Soave wine and its Consortium have come full circle with the awarding of the “G” to Soave Superiore.

After the long and arduous task of viticultural zonification, that has effectively made the zone the most studied territory in Italy, this area has decided to bet its future on its unique identity, by developing a quality pyramid, based on the French “cru” concept.
Thanks to a unique composition of the soils that recount through their volcanic origin and evolution of 60 million years, and also thanks to the extraordinary quality of a dark soil that is capable of yielding limpid, golden nectars, in other words, a vocation given by nature for wines which also by their very nature are truly indigenous.

That is the exceptional quality of Europe’s largest vineyard, which, though standing on homogenous soil and being the area of predilection for a single variety, is able to conjugate the “verb” Soave in an incredible varieties of declensions.
Here, then, is one of the strengths of Soave which, as well as its distinguished viticultural history (it was the first recognised typical zone in 1931), is able to offer a grape variety with a unique character, as well as producers who are both passionate and sensitive.

The re-discovery and the recognition of the quality potential of Garganega, the indigenous grape that thrives here in Soave, has signalled the return to a tradition for a wine that represents a tru essence of its area and vineyards.

VenetoGiving new value to the plus points of Garganega and the other indigenous variety Trebbiano di Soave, signifies, on old vines in the hills, ancient cultivars tempered by time, balance production appropirtoeness to the terroir and exaltation of character and identity.
For the new plantings, on the other hand, the aim is for few bunches per vine, major concentration, new winemaking goals and an easier way to manage the vineyard. Production realities, both large and small, have created new goals, as in the case of small producers, who have recognized “crus” with on their estates and, as a result, have the ability to make wines of surprising character and quality, which have changed the profile of the wines.

With regard to Cantine Sociale (Cooperative Wineries), the various projects have become significant with the opening of a privileged channel of communication between the market and the suppliers and consequently a greater responsibility for every single producer.

vignetoA more discriminating selection of vines and vinification of single vineyards are today at the forefront of the quality offered by Cooperatives. The result of this renewal has allowed Soave Superiore to achieve DOCG status and brought about a total reorganization of the denomination in terms of quality by identifying vineyards by their specific microclimatic condition.

The Quality Pyramid that is thus created is intended to convey new and precise goals to vine growers, recognizing the need for maximum commitment to quality in the vineyard, and at the same time, simplifying the communication of the quality concept to consumers.
