The 1998 season saw a reduction in production by about 15% compared to the productive potential of the denomination. The reasons for this decrease are to be sought in the June 23 hailstorm that hit over 800 acres of flat lands, as well as in the long run of hot and dry weather in the summer that, especially in the hilly areas where it was not possible to intervene with emergency irrigation, resulted in a significant decrease in production. In terms of quality the wines proved excellent, with alcoholic gradations in the norm and with interesting aromas, especially for grapes harvested before the rainy interlude in early October.
Regarding the Recioto di Soave, 1998 is remembered as the first year in which the famous dessert wine from Verona could boast the DOCG seal.
