After a winter with temperatures and precipitations higher than the average of recent years, the spring saw a lack of rainfall although the precipitations were regularly distributed in time.
Except some initial outbreaks in some areas of the plains, the parasites disturbance was very weak, the vineyards very healthy and balanced with regards to their production capacity, thanks to a timely monitoring and reporting service. This service used the 15 brand new agro-meteorological stations operating in the area, creating a timely and updated reference for operators. The expected production was good especially from the point of view of quality, because of elongated bunches and sparse grapes; prelude to an excellent quality.
The rains expected by the end of June came a few days late in July, affecting profusely the production area.
The vines found in the most perfect condition for increasing the bunches optimally. The mild temperatures during the day and cooler at night were a prelude to a good quality also of the flavor profile.
The persistence of these weather conditions, in addition to more frequent rainfalls in the month of August, delayed the veraison of the Garganega of a few days.
In this period, some hailstorms interested some limited flat areas of the DOC in the municipalities of Roncà and Montecchia Crosara.
The harvest in this context was slightly delayed by a few days.
The harvest, given the weather conditions, was not easy but the analytical parameters detected in the grapes were undoubtedly satisfactory. Alcoholic contents within the five-year average, higher acidity, and a remarkable aromatic composition characterized this season which was certainly good for white wines made from non-early varieties as is the case of the Soave.
