VISIT

So many tourists visit Venice, without ever discovering the Veneto, a region of breathtaking beauty in nearly every sense. For the joy of wine lovers, it is also the largest winemaking region in Italy, producing some of the world’s most well known wines, and many other rare finds. The artistic and historic significance of the area is immeasurable, with monuments dating back to Roman times through to the reign of the Venetian empire and beyond. Nature lovers will find thousands of miles of trails starting from the pristine Dolomite Alps, down to Lake Garda to the West and the Adriatic Sea to the East. There are the magnificent cities of Venice, Treviso, Padova, Vicenza and Verona, along the main thoroughfare, but it’s the winding roads that lead to countless delightful discoveries, like Soave.

SOAVE

Soave is located in the western side of the Veneto Region in the province of Verona, and shares much of its history with the homonymous capital city. The Soave appellation covers around 50 km of roads and trails that wind through thirteen small townships. It is one of the few areas of the Veneto to have stayed much as it was a century ago: soaring castles, quaint hamlets, rolling hills of vineyards and orchards with pristine woodlands. The osterias and restaurants stay true to the seasonal offers of native fruit and vegetables, and dishes are prepared with local ingredients, meats and cheeses that have been traditions at the table for generations.

SEASONS

Every season has its charm. Local festivals and traditions often mark the seasons of viticulture and winemaking and other short seasonal produce like cherries and peas. The season of the harvest when the garganega grape loses its green hue to become translucent and golden is a stunning sight. The best bunches are hung to dry and the smell of fresh must sweetens the air at dusk throughout September and October.
